Description:

The most recent addition to the National World War II Museum in New Orleans is the PT-305, a patrol-torpedo boat that served the US Navy in European waters from 1944 to the end of the war. Climb aboard living history for a deck tour or a ride on Lake Pontchartrain.

History

The patrol-torpedo boat PT-305 was built in New Orleans by Higgins Industries. It is a wooden-hull vessel designed for the U.S. military. Reliant on cooperation and teamwork, PT boats were the perfect naval expression of the American Spirit at war. With small crews within collaborative 12-ship units, the boats were home to Navy sailors and the setting to many fascinating war stories.

Following WWII, PT-305 served as a New York Tour boat, a fishing charter and an oyster boat. Along the way, she went through several modifications, but the National WWII Museum restored her to her former glory as she made her way back to New Orleans.

Rides and Deck Tours

Equipped with advanced technology, fast and uniquely maneuverable, the PT-305 was a critical asset to the US Navy during World War II. Explore the tight quarters that housed Navy sailors, hear the unique stories of service men and glide through the water on a major piece of history. The PT-305 is the worlds only fully restored combat-veteran PT boat in operation today.

Rides are offered only on Saturday with limited availability. The ride lasts approximately 90 minutes. Exclusive charters are also available upon request. Tickets are $350 per person and $305 for seniors, children ages 12-17, military, and Museum Members.

Deck tours are offered on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The last tour begins at 3 p.m. each day. The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes. Tickets at $15 per person and $12 for seniors, children ages 12-17, military and Museum Members.

The boat is stationed at Lakeshore Landing, located at 6701 Stars and Stripes Blvd. Shuttles are available from the National World War II Museum to Lakeshore Landing for $29 per person round-trip for the guests who book rides. The service must be pre-booked and will depart from the Museum 45 minutes prior to the scheduled ride time.

Children under 12 are not allowed in the boathouse. The boat is not ADA accessible. Guests who have purchased tickets will be notified no less than two hours prior to scheduled ride time in the event weather or water conditions do not allow for safe operation of PT-305.
