Idea Village

Idea Village

Entrepreneurial companies account for the majority of new jobs in the U.S. each year. Encouraging new ideas, and building on them, is an essential component for economic growth in New Orleans.

Idea Village helps foster this innovative spirit in one of the most diverse and interesting places in the world. Here's how it works: Local entrepreneurs and startups can apply for an intensive 15-week "Boot Camp" training program that offers the tools and training to build early stage businesses. The most promising candidates receive access to mentors, hands-on expertise in developing and executing business plans, and introductions to "Angel" investors searching for high growth opportunities.

A second component is an education calendar of seminars and networking opportunities for anyone looking to start or grow a business in New Orleans.

Idea Village also sponsors youth entrepreneurship programs in high school classrooms around the city.

Idea Village is the result of three years of planning by a team of young professionals in New Orleans. Since launching in April, 2002 Idea Village has reviewed more than 30 business plans, its mentors provided 1,000 coaching hours to local entrepreneurs.

The first graduating class includes developers of the first online portal for gourmet foods; the first provider of online white-tablecloth dining packages; and makers of management software now being tested by Universal Music.

Idea Village has built a network of 100 professionals to provide hands-on expertise, and a database of 500 mentors and investors of early stage businesses. Idea Village's goal is to add 58 new companies to the region in five years.

Idea Village is commitment by talented locals who believe in New Orleans. For more information, contact Tim Williamson, President and CEO, at tim@ideavillage.org or visit: www.ideavillage.org.
