LIMMA's Mission
The Louisiana Independent Music Manufacturers Association (L.I.M.M.A) is a professional trade association that combines the strength of Louisiana's independent music manufacturers and publishers in order to better promote, market and develop their products and to provide them with a stronger voice on legislative issues affecting the industry.
Why do we need LIMMA?
Visitors and natives alike know the Louisiana sound when they hear it. That sound has always been best captured by Louisiana's own home-grown music companies, the small mom-and-pop or musician-run enterprises that operate close to the local music community. National companies may seize the occasional hit that conforms to the tastes of New York or L.A., but its the local manufacturers and publishers who preserve the changing body of music that is uniquely Louisianas. At present, though, local record companies too often lose opportunities to national concerns with greater marketing muscle and political pull.
By working together, independent record companies and publishers can reach the listeners who are hungry for authentic Louisiana musicthe music that is being created today as well as traditional tunesdirectly. We can also make sure that the state and local government agencies working with conventions, film production crews, and tourism promotion include the music we present in all their outreach. By doing so, we educate the public about real Louisiana music, and create new opportunities for our artists and songwriters in the process.
LIMMA Services
LIMMA provides the following services for its members:
Cooperative advertising and marketing.By combining with other independents, LIMMA members have access to eye-catching group advertisements in print and on the internet. Combining with other LIMMA members also makes for a more impressive show at music industry and sales events.
Outreach to tourism marketers.
LIMMA representatives keep local tourism and convention bureaus, tourism marketing concerns, private promoters and the state tourism office constantly aware of the availability of our music for special projects and promotions.
Liaison with the Film Industry
LIMMA maintains contact with the state film commission and the film commission of the City of New Orleans, requests information on every new film project proposed in the state in order to check for music/soundtrack opportunities, and makes direct contact with production companies that have a history of working in Louisiana.
Guide to Louisiana Independent Music Manufacturers and Publishers
Updated annually, the Guide profiles each member organization, provides their complete discography or music list, and portrays the personality of the manufacturer or publishing company in an engaging short essay by an established music writer. The Guide is sold in retail outlets and by arrangement through select hotels. It is also distributed free of charge to key entertainment industry leaders and tourism officials.
Quarterly Newsletter
The LIMMA newsletter provides news on distribution, promotion and marketing opportunities, updates on member releases and achievements, and coverage of national, state and local policies and programs as they impact the business of independents. Annual Fundraiser. Each Fall, LIMMA holds a major fundraiser/music bash in one of Louisianas music-producing communities to raise operating funds as well as visibility for our organization.
