New Orleans magazine "Chef of the Year" 2008. Food & Wine magazine "Top Ten Best Chef in America" 2008. Award finalist for James Beard's "Rising Star Chef" 2009-2011. "Top Chef Masters" contestant on Bravo. All of the above describe Chef Sue Zemanick of Gautreau's Restaurant at 1728 Soniat Street in Uptown New Orleans. Described as an "Uptown jewel box" by locals and visitors, Gautreau's owes that distinction largely to Chef Sue who helped transform the restaurant into a mecca for those who appreciate haute cuisine in a "simple, elegant, and gimmick-free" ambience, in the words of one reviewer.
Graduating from the world-renowned Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY with a fellowship in seafood/fish, Chef Sue was also named among the "Top 5 Rising Chefs" by Gayot in 2008 and "5 Chefs to Watch" by Louisiana Cookin' the same year her restaurant was named among the "Top Ten Best" by the New Orleans daily newspaper, the Times-Picayune. Although a fairly recent Yankee transplant from Pennsylvania and New York, Chef Sue has made certain that the cooking at Gautreau's has respected the classic French-inspired New Orleans flavors since taking over as Executive Chef in 2005. Barely 30 years old with a promising future of many years ahead of her, Chef Sue runs her kitchen with tact, class and professionalism, never belittling or demeaning her cooks and always quick to give credit where it's due. |
