Gluten-Free Dining

New Orleans is a great place for eating...gluten-free! That’s right; this world-class food destination offers abundant gluten-free dining options. Whether diners have celiac disease, gluten intolerance or simply choose to eat gluten-free, there are plenty of restaurants that happily and deliciously accommodate dietary restrictions. New Orleans’ chefs have stepped up to the plate, literally and figuratively, to make navigating New Orleans' dynamic and ever-expanding dining scene a breeze for those avoiding gluten.

One important note: The list below is safe for those diners not eating gluten. It is a bit trickier for those who are sensitive to cross contamination (anything that comes in contact with gluten) or are severe celiac sufferers. The only true celiac safe eatery is tucked away in Metairie: PeaceBaker makes King Cakes, cookies, pastries and all sorts of breads, biscuits and more.

More and more New Orleans restaurants are adding local products and menu items that work with a variety of dietary requirements. For cocktail lovers, it is also worth noting that distilled spirits are gluten free, as is wine; and there are some decent gluten free beers on the market too.

Here is a list of New Orleans restaurants and markets offering gluten free dining options. If you can’t find a restaurant that works for you, you can purchase food to take on a picnic at Audubon Park, Crescent Park, City Park or any of the lovely green spaces around New Orleans.

Remember, when dining in any of the restaurants listed below (or anywhere for that matter) make sure to let your server know about any dietary restrictions, especially gluten sensitivity. Being celiac or gluten free in New Orleans is exciting and easy on the gut!
