Art Festivals

Art and New Orleans are inspired bedfellows. Consider: It took a visit to New Orleans to jumpstart Edgar Degas’ career and Tennessee Williams channeled true desire here thanks to a certain streetcar. A city that celebrates dancing to a different drummer, New Orleans salutes the performing, visual and avant-garde art scene with festivals and special openings. The Warehouse Arts District is awash in white attire during White Linen Night, a gallery hopping, cocktail sipping meander the first Saturday of August. A week later it’s Dirty Linen Night along Royal Street, a lampooning parade of frocks and suits spotted and mussed, with dirty martinis and dirty rice on the side. Come October, Art for Arts’ Sake throws open the doors of galleries on Julia and Magazine streets, featuring live music and contemporary art.
