Every new author's dream is publication of their manuscript embodying their heart and soul and the end product of countless lonely hours of grappling with words, characterizations and plots. Every established author's dream is to stay on top of their game and continue the success they enjoy.

The new and the established both come together in the annual Words and Music Festival sponsored by the Pirate's Alley Faulkner Society, Inc., which was founded in 1990 by men and women dedicated to good books and the literary arts. This unique writers' festival/conference is held every fall, giving writers a chance to showcase their latest works. In a city that has inspired countless authors, including William Faulkner, O. Henry, Tennessee Williams, Ernest Hemingway, John Kennedy Toole and countless others, the Faulkner Society is justly proud of its record of assisting authors make their dreams come true.

Faulkner House, located on Pirate’s Alley across from St. Louis Cathedral in the heart of the French Quarter, was Faulkner’s home in 1925 when he wrote his first novel, Soldier’s Pay. It was lovingly restored by current owners Rosemary James and Joseph DiSalvo, who also operate a bookstore on the premises. Faulkner House is recognized as a National Historical Landmark.

Recent years have seen well-known, bestselling authors at the festival, along with established literary agents, publishing company representatives and other writing professionals. The festival annually features 75 to 100 new and established authors, scholars, editors, publishers, and performing artists. Each year, established masters of the literary arts share their experience and wisdom in sessions on the art of writing, designed primarily for developing writers but also open to the reading public.
