Description: “What America Needs Now is a Drink!” Franklin Roosevelt, 1933

Six nights per week, great New Orleans style Jazz belts out of this place located on Iberville Street, just across from Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse and Acme Oyster House on the first street of the French Quarter past Canal. The Bar takes its theme from the repeal of prohibition in 1933, and along with Jazz, great prohibition period craft cocktails are available daily. The music starts around 7:30 most days, and as early as 3pm on weekends, going until the bar closes. The atmosphere is remarkably upscale, and intimate, with only about 30 seats, and has wonderful french doors opening to the sidewalk.

The bar is located inside the Hotel Mazarin, a classy joint to stay in and part of the New Orleans Hotel Collection. For a full schedule of performers and times, be sure to visit:

Description: Balcony Music Club is centrally located between the excitement of Bourbon Street and Frenchman. BCM is a popular music venue that showcases up and coming musical talent in the city. The blues, jazz, or funk music blaring from inside the venue makes BCM hard to walk by and not check out. Locals advise that BCM is a must-go on your trip to NOLA!

Description: Located in the delightfully authentic Bourbon Orleans hotel of the New Orleans Hotel Collection, the Bourbon O is a “velvet rope” jazz Bar, unlike any other on Bourbon Street. Billed as the classiest bar on Bourbon, the Bourbon O offers a wide range of historically accurate craft cocktails, including the only Ramos Gin Fizz with its original recipe 6- minute shake!

From Wednesday to Sunday evenings, some of the best New Orleans Jazz performers are on stage here, with great audience engagement, traditional tunes as well as some contemporary jazz twists and jams. The atmosphere is comfortable, yet sophisticated- exactly the place to end a nice evening in the French Quarter!

Description: As its name suggests, Chickie Wah Wah is one of NOLA’s premier dance and groove spots. The bar is known for its live music almost every night and its dedication to supporting local talent throughout the community (all cover proceeds go directly to the band). Chickie Wah Wah offers daily drink specials during happy hour and an extensive menu of classic southern BBQ dishes. Be sure to stop in any night, but don’t forget your dancing shoes!

Description: Originally a chess and music club, this dive-y spot has also hosted poetry readings and some of pianist James Booker's most incendiary recitals. The Maple Leaf is still the place to go if you're craving funky New Orleans music that sometimes doesn't cease until sunrise. The Rebirth Brass Band has a regular gig here, and if you're lucky, you just might catch the painter Frenchy in action.

There's no bar or climate control, and a line usually forms outside about a half-hour before.
