Description: Founded as a clubhouse for Professor Longhair, Tip's has played host to NOLA music legends since opening its doors in 1977. Dr. John, the Neville Brothers and "Trombone Shorty" have all graced the stage at this excellent, standing-room-only venue. Check out the famous weekly fais do do, a Cajun dance party usually headed by Bruce Daigrepont and his band.

Description: Originally a chess and music club, this dive-y spot has also hosted poetry readings and some of pianist James Booker's most incendiary recitals. The Maple Leaf is still the place to go if you're craving funky New Orleans music that sometimes doesn't cease until sunrise. The Rebirth Brass Band has a regular gig here, and if you're lucky, you just might catch the painter Frenchy in action.
