New Orleans Pelicans Basketball
2015-2016 Season

Pelicans Basketball

Get your tickets now for the New Orleans Pelicans – the city’s National Basketball Association (NBA) team.

The 2017-18 regular season begins in mid-October and lasts anywhere from April to June, depending on the team’s eligibility for the NBA Playoff Games. Each NBA team plays 82 regular season games, half of which (41) are played in their home venues.

All Pelicans home games are played in the Smoothie King Center, a state-of-the-art sports arena located in Downtown New Orleans, adjacent to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and just minutes away from the French Quarter. Seating capacity is 18,000.

The team came to New Orleans from Charlotte, North Carolina in 2002 as the Hornets and they played under that name until the 2013-14 Season when they became the Pelicans, renamed after the Louisiana State Bird. Since their arrival in New Orleans they have advanced to the NBA playoffs six times and their best season was in 2007-08 when they won first place in their division with a team-high 56-26 record.

The Pelicans currently play in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference of the NBA, along with the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies.

So, whether you’re a die-hard basketball fan, or just looking for a night of fun, exciting entertainment, Pelicans games guarantee a fun, action-packed evening. Come cheer the birds to victory alongside their spirited dance team and Pierre the Pelican, the team’s energetic mascot.

Single game tickets are on sale at the Arena box office or online through Ticketmaster at here. Multi-game ticket packages are also available.

Pelicans 2017-2018 Season Prospects

Hopes are high for the team as they announce their training camp roster in advance of playing their first season home game against the 2016-17 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors on October 20 at the Smoothie King Center. Several new player acquisitions during the off-season are expected to shore up a starting lineup led by 6’10” center Anthony Davis and help the team rise above the 34-48 record they posted for the 2016-17 season.

Before going down with an injury late in the season, Davis led the team with an average of 28 points per game and became the first player in the team’s history to surpass 2,000 points in a season.

Returning also is forward DeMarcus Cousins, acquired from the Sacramento Kings in February 2017 after three All-Star seasons and two All-NBA Second Team selections. During his seven seasons with the Kings he averaged over 20 ppg and, in 17 games with the Pels at the conclusion of last season, he averaged 24.2 ppg.

Other returnees from last season include a pair of seven-footers, Omark Asik and Alexis Ajinca, who were numbers one and two on the team in rebounds; E'Twaun Moore who was second in ppg and third in field goal percentage; and Cheick Diallo who was team leader from the free-throw line.

Added to the roster during the off-season were two veteran players, Tony Allen (13 years) and Rajon Rondo (11 years), both of whom have been defensive standouts with other NBA teams that made frequent playoff appearances.

Alvin Gentry returns as head coach for his third season.
