New Orleans Pelicans Basketball
2014-2015 Season

Pelicans Basketball

The National Basketball Association’s 2014-15 Season is underway and the Pelicans are getting ready for a three-game home stand and a total of seven home games in December.

Good seats are always available in the New Orleans Arena, conveniently located in the heart of downtown New Orleans, right next to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. For a fun-filled evening, a Pelicans game is hard to beat, especially when the team is on a roll.

The Entertainment

Not only is the action full of excitement on the court, the entertainment offered during timeouts and halftime is possibly the best in the league.

Skilled gymnasts, shooting contests, and team cheers lead by led by mascot Pierre T. Pelican are just a few of the fun happenings fans can look forward to. If you’re lucky you might just catch a free Pelicans T-shirt in the stands!

Tickets

Tickets are available through TicketMaster or at the box office on game nights. Come out and cheer for the home team or your OWN team if they happen to be in town when you are!

The Team

Into the first week of December, the Pels are shooting .500 ball after 16 games. A now-healthy Anthony Davis, the team’s top draft pick two seasons ago, ranks high among the league’s leaders in scoring, points-per-game average, field goal percentage and rebounds and he leads the team in all of those categories. After missing much of last season with injuries, Davis is finally beginning to emerge into the leadership role that has been expected of him since coming to the team as the top player from #1-ranked Kentucky in 2012. He is averaging close to 25 ppg going into the season’s second month.

Close behind him are forwards Tyreke Evans and Ryan Anderson, each with more than 250 points on the scoreboard so far. Running neck and neck with them is guard Jrue Holiday, also with just over 250 points. Last year’s team leader, guard Eric Gordon, despite missing four games this season, has contributed over 100 points to his team’s stats. Likewise for the Pelicans’ starting center, 7’0” Omer Asik, a 2014 acquisition from the Houston Rockets.

Head coach Monty Williams, now into his fifth year with the Pelicans (previously Hornets), is finally seeing the team start to rebound from the loss of several key players in recent years. The team made the playoffs in his first year, 2010, but the losses of David West and Chris Paul sent the Pelicans into a tailspin of three consecutive losing seasons. The current roster, however, has the coaching staff and fans optimistic that the team may once again return to the playoffs.
