BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans
January 9, 2012 - LSU vs. Alabama
It's now final! Louisiana State University (LSU) will take on the Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama in the Bowl Championship Series title game in New Orleans on Monday, January 9.
The two teams will meet in a rematch of their low-scoring, tough defensive game played in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on November 5 and won by LSU on an overtime field goal, 9-6. Neither team scored a touchdown in that game. LSU finished the 2011 season with a perfect 13-0 record and Alabama finished 12-1, its only loss coming in the game against LSU. The winner of the game on January 9 will be considered the #1 college football team in the nation.
The BCS Title Game, nicknamed the "Super Bowl of College Football," will be played in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, with kickoff at 8:30 p.m. and it will be broadcast over ESPN.
This title game will be the first one in which two teams from the same conference faced each other since the BCS formula was devised in 1998. LSU and Alabama are both in the Southeastern Athletic Conference. LSU will be seeking its third BCS title, having won it for the 2003 and 2007 seasons.
