Prospect.4
November 18, 2017 – February 25, 2018

Prospect New Orleans is a citywide triennial of contemporary art, and in November 2017, the series returns with “Prospect.4: The Lotus in Spite of the Swamp.”

Prospect New Orleans invites artists both local to Louisiana and from around the world to create pieces and exhibit at venues and public spaces around the Crescent City. The exhibition invites visitors and locals to learn about the richness of New Orleans culture. This particular iteration of Prospect is inspired by the lotus plant.

73 artists from over 25 countries will participate in Prospect.4. Trevor Schoonmaker is the program’s Artistic Director. The Lotus in Spite of the Swamp evokes the natural environment of New Orleans: the murky swamp waters. Artists will acknowledge the history of creolization and cross-cultural fertilization in terms of jazz music, celebrations and customs, food, religion, architecture, language, and people in New Orleans.

Since this Prospect New Orleans occurs at the same time is the New Orleans Tricentennial, many of the artists’ visions will come to life in honor of the history and future of New Orleans. Artists will interpret the tricentennial and the theme of the lotus plant in their own ways.

Prospect.4 will kick off with an opening gala on the evening of November 17. For more information on this fundraising event, see here.
