After being flooded during Hurricane Katrina, the ornate, historic Orpheum Theater has been restored and is once again open for shows.

Built in 1918, the Orpheum is a nearly century-old Beaux Arts theater in the heart of the Central Business District. This iconic space—which is one of the few remaining vertical hall designs in the US—has hosted countless vaudeville acts, films and performances by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.

Rebuilding and renovation

When the levees failed in 2005 with the strike of Hurricane Katrina the halls of the Orpheum Theater sat dormant for 10 years.

Today the Orpheum is widely renowned for its near-perfect acoustics and innovative seating arrangements. Even the most distant seats in the house feel like they’re close to the stage, thanks to the structure’s vertical design. Flexible seating options allow for capacity to range from 1,500 to 1,800. Recent restoration efforts have brought out the ornate artwork and design, making the Orpheum experience a visual, as well as aural one.

The Orpheum has a packed schedule with local and international performances, and of course is the home once again of the renowned Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
