Harrah's Gets Into The Holiday Spirit
Fun Events Set for Fulton Place, Casino

As the 2010 Holiday Season gets into full swing, Harrah's New Orleans gets into full swing with it as a month's worth of fun, exciting and FREE(!) events open their doors and hearts to the public.

Harrah's Casino Theater, the site of many memorable concerts and special events this fall, will be dark throughout the month of December. But, just outside, it will be bright as day when "Miracle on Fulton Street" illuminates the popular pedestrian plaza adjacent to Harrah's Hotel between Lafayette and Poydras streets. The four-year-old holiday attraction in the heart of downtown New Orleans came alive again after a special lighting ceremony in late November that will continue through January 2, 2011.

Miracle on Fulton Street, which began in 2007 as an effort to restore the city's holiday spirit after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, offers something for all ages. That effort, which was greeted by rave reviews its first year, has now become a tradition that is eagerly anticipated every year around this time. Live entertainment for the grownups, visits from Santa for the kids and beautiful, imaginative lights and holiday music for everyone of good cheer: that's what's on tap for an event that just keeps getting better and better.

This free and open-to-the-public event is open daily at 12 noon throughout December.

"Faux Snow" and More . . .

Miracle on Fulton Street features a dazzling holiday boardwalk, complete with Macy's Tremendous Tree, which towers 30 feet in the sky. The world-famous chain department store is also sponsoring "Macy's Believe Mailbox," where children can drop off their letters to Santa, and Santa's Toy Box. Guests are encouraged to donate new or unused gifts valued at $15 and up into the Toy Box to benefit the Friends of the Fisherman Foundation. In exchange for the donation, patrons will get a complimentary photo with Santa.

'Faux snow' is yet another highlight of the attraction. Periodic snowfalls, while extremely rare in New Orleans, are nonetheless "forecast" (guaranteed, actually!) for Fulton Street this holiday season every hour on the hour beginning at noon daily. Just stroll through the illuminated tunnel and let the snowflakes fall on you.

The entrance to the tunnel is located at Fulton and Poydras streets. It consists of a series of custom-built, faux wrought-iron arches, accentuated by 12-foot Christmas trees and 3-foot fleur de lis ornaments. The arches create a dramatic canopy, illuminated by thousands of LED lights. A computerized system enables lighting technicians to create varied color themes against the backdrop of arches, ornaments and trees. It is a miracle of modern technology that has to be seen to be believed!

On the weekends, holiday-themed food and beverages, including hot chocolate and roasted chestnuts, will be available from street vendors and retailers on Fulton Street. Guests can also enjoy face painters; balloon and caricature artists; and a visit from live reindeer, Sweet Thing and Bubba.

Commemorative photos with Santa will be available in front of Macy's Tremendous Tree, Fridays and Saturdays from 6-10 p.m. and Sundays from 2-7 p.m. This year, Harrah's Hotel will also shine bright in jewel-colored lights with Christmas trees throughout the lobby and a gingerbread Superdome, in honor of the World Champion New Orleans Saints.

Visitors can also take advantage of the goods and services offered by the businesses that front on the Fulton Street Plaza. These include Aidan Gill (a styling salon for men), Ernst Café, Gordon Biersch (micro-brewery and restaurant), Grand Isle Restaurant and Ruth's Chris Steak House.

Live entertainment will take place on the Fulton Stage in Fulton Square on Fridays and Saturdays from 8-10 p.m. (unless otherwise noted below) and on Sundays from 4-6 p.m. Performers will include top local bands and special performances on Christmas week.
